Visit of HRH Prince Laurent of the dispensary in Brussels (march 2009)

HRH Prince Laurent, president of the Foundation, paid a working visit at the dispensary of Brussels, in order to evaluate the achievement of the dispensary since its creation in January 1997, the present operation of the centre and the quality of the medical infrastructure and the care for the animals in treatment.

The medical team of the dispensary of Brussels consists of two veterinary doctors. This team ensures moreover the ultrasound examinations for the four other dispensaries and the bone surgery for the dispensaries in Antwerp and Hornu. It is specialised in osteopathy and acupuncture, which heightens the therapeutic quality of the Brussels dispensary. The medical team is assisted by six volunteers for the administration, reception of new patients and the control of terms of access.

Only in the dispensary of Brussels, in its 13th year of existence, in 2009, more than 40.000 animals have received care, an average of 3600 clients a year, coming mainly from the 19 municipalities of the region of Brussels capital.

The dispensary of Brussels proceeds every month with the implant of 26 chips for dogs and cats. This is a legal measure for dogs, not for cats. The dispensaries of the Foundation perform it on cats however, in order to contend abandonment and to contribute to animal welfare.
