WHY WE PROCEEDED WITH THE RENOVATION OF THE DISPENSARY IN SERAING? LThe dispensary of the Prince Laurent Foundation, was inaugurated in 1998 in Seraing (near Liege) in premises made available by the CPAS (Social Services) of this township. It covers an area of 150 sq.m. ( approx. 1600 sq.ft). At the beginning the existing surface contained a consulting-room, a surgery including a bathroom, a toilet, an animal quarter quite a distance away from the surgery unit, a large administration office, the reception desk and a huge waiting-room.

Once in operation it was soon evident that the subdivision and the size of the accommodations did not meet the needs for a rational use of the available space. The waiting-room for its part was far to large, while the veterinarians had to give treatment in one single narrow consulting-room, right next to a just as confined operating room. By a more efficient utilization of the available surface it has been possible to provide a fully renovated dispensary which now includes the following accommodations : two consulting-rooms, a surgery with an adjacent laboratory, an animal quarter, including a bath-tub, a cold-room, a records-office, a toilet for the members of the staff and one for the visitors, an administration office and the reception desk, not forgetting a waiting-room reduced to a more appropriate size but still quite adequate.

The renovation carried out inside the Seraing dispensary has made it possible to improve the functioning of the accommodations , while at the same time introducing a novel visual aesthetic disposition and the use of colours, beige and green, identical to those to be found in the other dispensaries in Brussels and Antwerp, as well as in the Foundation's headquarters on the avenue Paul Deschanel.

		The team of the Seraing dispensary consists of two veterinary doctors, an administrative secretary , an ambulance driver and some volunteers for the reception and to help the clients. More than 35.000 animals received care since the opening of the dispensary.
