Rescuing a lion after abuse in a circus (june 2009)![]() HRH Prince Laurent, President of the Foundation has paid a visit on June 30 2009, to the lion Brutus, rescued by the Société Protectrice des Animaux de France (SPA) and admitted in the asylum of Natuurhulpcentrum, in Opglabbeek, Belgium. This 6-year old lion belonged to a French circus, where he was badly treated, locked up in a too small cage, with eradicated claws and a broken jawbone. The French justice had seized the animal and entrusted it to the SPA. It found shelter in the Belgian wildlife park where wild animals are cared for since many years. The lion lives since several months in the Natuurhulpcentrum, and recovers slowly, waiting for a last trip to South Africa where he will be admitted in a sanctuary. The Foundation Prince Laurent welcomes these initiatives, which contribute to animal welfare. |
