A few months later the firemen of Charleroi, the gendarmerie and civil protection unit received a similar reward for the efforts of their dogs and their masters after the terrible earthquake in Turkey.. Not forgetting the Award granted to the non-profit organisation vzw Torenvalk for protecting the nests of theblack shouldered kite , which hidden in the wheat fields are destroyed during the harvesting season by the threshing machines. In 2001, the Awards went to the following associations :
- the Donkey Sanctuary in Great-Britain, the world's most important donkey centre, a true haven of peace for ill-treated and neglected donkeys; - the palliative care unit of the Hôpital Saint-Jean in Brussels, which allows terminally ill patients to welcome their animal companion in their hospital-room. In 2003, the Awards went to the following :
- Mrs. Jeanne Augier, President and General Manager of the hotel Negresco in Nice who for many years promoted the respect and welfare for animals. Active supporter of the association "Rescue and protection of the animals of the Riviera". She also pioneered the first national days for animal respect, which she would like her country to be a model for all animals, through education of the children but also a unending struggle against animal cruelty, by just striving to impose the application of existing laws and treaties dealing with the trade in animals. - The animal section of the police of Sint-Truiden, the first of its kind in Belgium,created in the summer of 2002 to provide an answer to questions and situations confronted more and more by policemen and quite often requiring intervention in favour of animals. In 2006 the awards of the Prince Laurent Foundation went to :
- Claudine André, who devoted her life to the protection of the bonobos in the Congo. As a Belgian, residing in Kinshasa for a great many years, she was the head of the Association "The Friends of the animals in Congo". As such she took up the defence of the bonobos,spending a lifetime in an attempt to preserve the future of a kind of chimpanzee living in the forests on the East bank of the Congo river revealing of much stronger social behaviour. She not only created a sanctuary where she gave shelter to orphan bonobos, the parents of which were butchered and sold for their meat, and enables to grow up as adults. - Dr. Philippe de Wailly who spend his entire professional life caring for the welfare of household animals and of birds; A French national, the veterinary doctor ¨Philippe de Wailly authored some thirty books on the subject of animal welfare ( mostly household animals and more recently birds). The publishing house "Les Editions du Rocher" has quite recently put on the market two books which fully correspond tot the objectives set out by the Prince Laurent Foundation, namely "The fifth sense of our animals" and "Evidence of love by our animals" |


In 1996, the association "la Bergerie du Faucon " the brainchild of Father Gilbert was granted an Award for its initiative aiming at the social reintegration of young delinquents by providing them work on a farm in the Haute-Provence where they learn to work with animals.
